A learnership combines a structured training programme with practical work, and leads to a qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners are paid a monthly stipend. Learnerships are offered by companies, often with funding from the sector education and training authorities (SETAs).
What employers look for
Most learnerships ask for a matric certificate, sometimes with maths or science, and that you are unemployed and between certain ages. Your CV should make it easy to see that you meet each requirement in the advert.
Your CV for a learnership
- A profile that names the learnership or field and why you want it.
- Your highest qualification with the year and key subjects.
- Any work, volunteering or projects linked to the field.
- Practical skills such as computer literacy, languages and a driver’s licence.
- Two references who can speak about your reliability.
Documents to have ready
Many applications ask for a certified copy of your ID and matric certificate. Get several copies certified at a police station so you can apply quickly.
